This Special Edition No. 2 of the Echoes of the Great Green Wall is devoted to the state of progress in key areas and concrete scientific, technological and innovative contributions in support of implementation and delivery of actions towards achieving the GGW objectives. The publication shares and disseminates knowledge including research results, effective and efficient innovations, successful approaches and technical itineraries and offers options for scaling up.

As part of its support to member countries and institutions for the implementation of the Great Green Wall (GGW), FAO’s Action Against Desertification (AAD) convenes an advanced training on Collect Earth and biophysical data collections in the GGW and the Sahel. More than 30 experts from Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal met on 23-27 September 2024 in Bamako, to advance the review and assessment of over 78,000 sample plots, contributing to FAO's continued efforts to monitor land restoration and land use change in Africa and in the GGW.

FAO, CIFOR-ICRAF, Great Green Wall (GGW) institutions and partners convened for a Second Week on GGW in Senegal, as part of the EU-funded Knowledge for Great Green Wall Action (K4GGWA) project. The event brought together more than 50 stakeholders and partners from GGW national entities (focal points and monitoring representatives) and the Panafrican Agency of GGW, as well as civil society representatives and networks, private sector actors and entrepreneurs, international organizations, NGOs and financial partners.

تُعد موريتانيا واحدة من أكثر دول الساحل تضرراً من فترات الجفاف التي تحدث منذ عام 1968. وقد تفاقم التصحر الناتج عن ذلك بسبب الأنشطة البشرية، التي زادت من حدة العوامل المناخية، مما أدى إلى عواقب مباشرة على وضع هش بالفعل - مما تسبب في تدهور البيئة والظروف الاجتماعية والاقتصادية العامة للبلاد، والفقر التدريجي لسكان يشكل سكان الريف 70 بالمائة منهم.
