Background:

The Global Network of Digital Agriculture Innovation Hubs, an FVC sub-programme launched at the end of 2021, aims to mainstream  digital agriculture innovation while promoting agrifood systems’ digital transformation. The in-country Digital Agriculture Innovation Hubs (DAIHs) are designed considering the national strategic priorities, digital maturity, and local needs. Then, the Global Network interconnect the national DAIHs to share knowledge, experiences, and expertise – this activity seeks to provide for the first global event for the FMM/GLO/159/MUL project.

In the face of climate change and the challenges the agrifood system is experiencing, the ability to adapt, change and come up with new approaches is essential. Innovation Challenges are a powerful instrument to accelerate innovation by harnessing high-quality idea submissions from diverse groups to develop game-changing solutions and offer an enabling environment, heightening skills and capacities.

Among these successful initiatives is the Global AgriInno Challenge (GAC), which aims to identify, accelerate, and scale up youth-led innovative business models and solutions for agrifood system issues. The GAC intends to build a platform of various resources for youth innovators and agri-tech entrepreneurs while enabling a global network that links youth to diverse stakeholders in the agrifood system. Now on its third cycle, the GAC 2020 and 2021 attracted over 750 participants and 329 teams from over 50 countries to evolve and highlight their innovative digital solutions to the world.

Another exciting recently launched programme is the SAP Agrifood Accelerator 2022, aiming to promote existing early-stage innovative agrifood solutions that can help SIDS recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and achieve the SDGs.

Global Innovation Challenge Knowledge-Sharing Event

Building on the experience gained through Innovation Challenges, this event aims at sharing knowledge and experiences from the GAC and other innovation challenge initiatives to foster sharing of ideas and experiences and find synergies among the four pilot countries and other partners.

This knowledge-sharing event combines presentations and a panel Q&A to create an active, action-led space for the partaking countries and partners to better understand Innovation Challenges in the agrifood sector. The focus will be on exchanging lessons learned from the Global AgriInno Challenge and other initiatives such as the SAP Accelerator programme, or the Smart Agriculture Competition in China.
