The course allows experienced Tanzanian veterinarians to visit farms with suspected FMD cases and carry out clinical and epidemiological investigations in real time.

The course covers clinical diagnosis of FMD, lesion ageing, biosecurity, risk assessment, and outbreak investigation. Training emphasizes hands-on experience on farms, handling animals, and working with local veterinary services. Classroom time focuses on practical exercises such as sampling, packaging, and understanding the local FMD situation.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

• recognize FMD in field conditions;
• conduct clinical and epidemiological investigations of suspected FMD cases;
• implement appropriate biosecurity measures;
• share knowledge with colleagues to improve national FMD preparedness.

This course supports the country's progress along the Progressive Control Pathway for FMD and contributes to improving Tanzania's capacity for FMD prevention and control.
