草地贪夜蛾防控全球行动

Fall armyworm (FAW) was first detected outside its native range in 2016 and has since been reported in 78 countries across Africa, the Near East, and Asia Pacific. The insect pest primarily attacks maize with an enormous impact. In Africa alone, FAW is estimated to cause USD 9.4 billion worth of yield losses per year.

FAO has been at the forefront of efforts to respond to FAW invasion. In 2019, FAO launched a Global Action (GA) on Fall Armyworm Control to provide a coordinative platform for multiple partners to mitigate the impact of FAW. The GA mobilizes technical and financial resources to inform government responses against FAW and activate capacity enhancement programmes across the target regions. The GA encompasses techniques and technologies in phytosanitary, monitoring, and early warning as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

The main objectives of the forum are to share research results on biological control as a primary tool in FAW management; discuss progress, challenges and ways forward in scaling-up biocontrol in each target region; and develop a roadmap for scaling-up biological control in Asia, NENA and Africa.
