5th International Conference on Organic Agriculture Sciences

Bringing Innovations to Organic Farming

Europe faces a moment of transformation. Europe 2020 Strategy puts forward three mutually reinforcing priorities:

- Smart growth: developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation

- Sustainable growth: promoting a more resource efficient, greener and more competitive economy

- Inclusive growth: fostering a high-employment economy delivering social and territorial cohesion

Seven flagship initiatives are putting forward to catalyze progress under each priority theme.

One of the initiatives is „Innovation Union“ with the aim to improve framework conditions and access to finance for research and innovation so as to ensure that innovative ideas can be turned into products and services that create growth and jobs.

Europe has many strengths: we can count on the talent and creativity of our people, high quality agricultural sector, our respect for the environment, our cultural diversity, and many others. Investing in research and development as well as innovation, in education and in resource efficient technologies will benefit traditional sectors, rural areas and high skill service economies. We should re-focus RD and innovation policy on new challenges, such as climate change, energy and resource efficiency, health and ageing, environmentally – friendly production methods and land management. To speed up the development of the new technologies needed to meet the identified challenges – implementation of „European Innovation Partnership “should be started.
