FAO has worked with the Bay of Bengal Programme - Intergovernmental Organization (BOBP-IGO) and Sri Lankan experts on the translation of the FAO-IMO-ILO Safety Recommendations for Decked Fishing Vessels of Less than 12 metres in Length and Undecked Fishing Vessels in Tamil language.
The Safety Recommendations provide information on the design, construction, equipment, training and protection of the crews of small fishing vessels with the aim to promote the safety of the vessel and the safety and health of the crews. Fisheries authorities and boat builders worldwide are applying these Safety Recommendations with clear guidance for the construction of new fishing vessels and provisions for existing vessels.
