What is TERRA?
TERRA is building on Brazil’s National Productive Forests Program (NPFP), a national initiative that supports family farming and recovers degraded lands through productive restoration.
TERRA connects local innovation to global learning through a partnership between the six TERRA co-founders and partners – Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture (MDA) of Brazil, FAO and the FFF, NOW Partners Foundation, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Agroecology Coalition and Alliance Bioversity International and CIAT (CGIAR) – and contributors, and aims to accelerate the global shift towards regenerative and inclusive food systems.
Anchored in Key Objective 9 of the COP30 Action Agenda, TERRA will strengthen collaboration between governments, producer organizations, research institutions, civil society, business and finance to promote productive forest landscapes, integrating farms and forests as a single system that restores biodiversity, enhances food security and builds resilient rural economies.
Objectives of the event
- Launch of TERRA as a global capacity platform for agroecology and agroforestry transformation.
- Showcase Brazil’s leadership through its public policies for agroecology transition, as well as sustainable agroforestry systems, mainly the National Productive Forests Program (NPFP) as a foundation for the Global Productive Forests Initiative (GPFI).
- Invite countries, partners and donors to support the TERRA Secretariat and contribute to its implementation and capitalization.
