The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Geospatial Unit provided a session on field data collection protocols for crop mapping during a Crop Cutting Survey Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop organized by FAO Afghanistan. The two-day workshop, held from April 16-17, aimed to equip trainers with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct effective crop cutting surveys, a crucial method for gathering data on crop production. 

The primary objective of the training was to equip participants with comprehensive guidelines for gathering field data, tailored specifically to meet the demands of remote sensing analysis. Remote sensing analysis relies on a supervised classification technique, necessitating a well-curated set of training data points for calibration. The session emphasized the importance of representative data collection, with a smaller subset reserved for validation purposes. Such data collection is crucial for calculating wheat analysis and mapping and generating accurate crop acreage estimations vital for informed decision-making.
