Fisheries and ecosystem-based management

The “Fisheries and ecosystem-based management” (FishEBM) projects are funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and bring together United Nations agencies, national non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations to enhance capacity for fisheries management through sound ecosystem-based management tools.

The FishEBM projects are part of the GEF's International Waters and Biodiversity Focal Areas portfolio.

Common Oceans deep-sea fisheries

The “Common Oceans deep-sea fisheries” project is committed to making deep-sea fisheries in the ocean areas beyond national jurisdiction (ABNJ) more sustainable and reducing their ecological footprint. Deep-sea fisheries bring economic benefits and are an important source of employment, livelihoods and nutrition.

The GFCM is the executing agency of the “Common Oceans deep-sea fisheries” project and one of the seven regional fisheries management organizations mandated to manage deep-sea fisheries. The project collaborates with the private sector, as well as national and international organizations.
