ABSTRACT

The second intersessional meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ) of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was held at FAO headquarters on 15–16 July 2025. During the session, the Committee reviewed the work carried out during the 2024–2025 period, including within the framework of the GFCM 2030 Strategy for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (GFCM 2030 Strategy), and provided recommendations on priorities for aquaculture management and research. In particular, in line with Target 3 of the GFCM 2030 Strategy, the Committee formulated advice on i) governance in support of responsible investment; ii) practices supporting the sustainability of the sector; iii) the social acceptability of the sector; and iv) technology and information systems, including the Information System for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean. Finally, the Committee agreed upon its workplan for 2025–2026.
