EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Working Group on VMS and related controls system (WGVMS) was held in a hybrid format on 26 May 2022 in Larnaca, Cyprus. The meeting was attended by 69 participants who assessed progress made towards the implementation of joint VMS pilots stemming from Resolutions GFCM/44/2021/7, GFCM/44/2021/8 and GFCM/44/2021/9 with other RFMOs and with CPCs. The meeting also focused on available MCS technology that could support CPCs in strengthening controls to deter IUU fishing. The WGVMS endorsed the outcomes of the joint CoC/SAC seminar on Fisheries Restricted Areas (FRAs) and recommended that the Compliance Committee adopt the GFCM FRA toolkit formulated by the seminar.
