EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The data preparation meeting for demersal species in the Western Mediterranean (Geographical subareas [GSAs] 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06) of the Working Group on Stock Assessment for Demersal Species (WGSAD) was held from 18 to 22 November 2024 in Malaga, Spain, in a hybrid format, hosted by the Technical Unit for the Western Mediterranean of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM). The meeting was attended by 21 participants from Algeria, Morocco and Spain, as well as representatives from the GFCM Secretariat. The main objective of the meeting was to provide a platform for reviewing, discussing, and analysing input data for the assessment of demersal species in the western Mediterranean ahead of the GFCM WGSAD meeting, scheduled for 9–14 December 2024. Information on 19 stocks was presented and discussed for the first time, including: i) European hake (Merluccius merluccius) in GSAs 01, 03, 04, 05 and 06; ii) deep-water rose shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris) in GSAs 01, 03, 04, 05 and 06; iii) blue and red shrimp (Aristeus antennatus) in GSAs 01, 02, 04, 05 and 06; iv) red mullet (Mullus barbatus) in GSAs 01, 03 and 06; and v) Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus) in GSA 06.
