GEO workshop on Climate Policy and Finance

21-23 September 2021

virtual event

This week, GFOI’s umbrella organization, the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is hosting the virtual event “Earth observations for climate ambition” from 21 to 23 September 2021.

The workshop will look at how Earth observations (EO) are supporting national climate action and the overall Global Stocktake (GST) process under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. The first two days are dedicated to EO in support of climate policy and last day to EO as the basis for climate finance decisions.

GFOI partners will speak on Day 2 (Wednesday 22 September) about the important issue of bridging top down and bottom-up forest-related emissions estimates to help drive action on the ground to tackle climate change.

Osamu Ochiai (CEOS Lead to GFOI from JAXA) will present on the delivery of global Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) products to support the GST process and María José Sanz Sanchez (Chair, GFOI’s Methods and Guidance Documentation Advisory Group, BC3) will discuss the importance of country engagement in the GST and of reconciling differences with national greenhouse gas inventories.

Please visit GEO website for further information about the workshop, including agenda with specific interventions and list of speakers.
