GFOI 2019: Setting the pace for enhanced forest monitoring systems

More than a hundred representatives from ministries, agencies, international organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academia and the private sector gathered in Mozambique for a two day summit on forest monitoring around the world. Read more here.

Annual 2019 plenary of the Global Forest Observations Initiative (GFOI)

Venue

The Plenary will be held at the Cardoso Hotel, which is located at Avenida Martires de Mueda 707, Maputo, Mozambique.

Accomodation

The GFOI Office has made a limited group booking for Plenary participants to stay at the Cardoso Hotel. If you are a sponsored participant, a room has been reserved for you. For all other participants, you are responsible for arranging and paying for your own accommodation. You can make a booking at the venue for the conference price of $US158/night (for 3 night minimum bookings) by following this link. Please select your own arrival and departure dates and type of room before proceeding to payment.


Participants are also welcome to make their own arrangements at the Cardoso Hotel or other hotels in the nearby area.

Visa applications

All participants are responsible for ensuring they can enter Mozambique and, where necessary, obtain entry and transit visas in advance of travelling. The invitation letters can be used to support visa applications. We strongly recommend you confirm your own requirements to enter Mozambique asap and, if necessary, apply for a visa.

Agenda

A draft agenda for the event is available here. Note this is still a draft and subject to change. Please note that the open forum sessions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday (9-10 April), with an additional open working session on Thursday (11 April). Invitations for events on Monday 8 April will be issued separately.

Exhibitions

There will be an exhibition space available in the foyer during the Open Forum (Tuesday and Wednesday only). This will be a space for participants to display their products and engage with other participants during the breaks. Availability is limited, so if you’re interested in hosting a space please submit a short expression of interest to the GFOI Office using the template provided via email before 15 March.

Catering

Participants will be provided with complimentary morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. An official dinner will also be provided on Tuesday 9 April. Participants will be responsible for organizing and paying for all other meals and refreshments.

A formal invitation from the FAO representative in Mozambique has been sent to the participants. RSVP before 8 March is essential as attendance is limited.
