Eighth meeting of the Global Record Working Group

12/03/2025

On 11 March 2024, the Global Record Informal Open-Ended Technical and Advisory Working Group convened in Paris, France.

Delegates from 45 States and the European Union, along with representatives from 4 intergovernmental organizations and 2 non-governmental organizations, reviewed the status of the Global Record and examined its role in supporting the implementation of the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) and other complementary instruments.

Since its initial launch in 2017, the Global Record information system has 70 States participating and contributing data on over 12,300 vessels.

During this meeting, participants underscored the need for future studies on vessel classification types and vessel beneficial ownership and discussed potential enhancements to the system to promote its broader use and efficiency. Participants also highlighted the vital role of the Global Record in enhancing the PSMA Global Information Exchange System (GIES) with updated fleet record.

This meeting was held with the financial support of the European Union, Iceland, the Republic of Korea, and France. The Global Record is developed and maintained by FAO, with continued support from the European Union and Iceland.
