The Global Record programme is considered one of FAO's important tools to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

José Graziano da Silva, Director-General of FAO, indicated that FAO has recently advanced three important tools to fight IUU fishing - the Agreement on Port State Measures, the Global Record and the Voluntary Guidelines for Catch Documentation Schemes.

Dr da Silva was closing the first meeting of the Parties to the PSMA, which was held in Oslo, Norway, from 29-31 May 2017. 

The meeting provided guidance on the way forward for the implementation of the Agreement and showed a strong commitment by the Parties to fight IUU fishing.
