Global Soil Partnership

Eurasian Subregional Soil Partnership

As part of the International Conference on Eurasian Food Security Network and Eurasian Soil Partnership, held in Moscow, Russian Federation on 18-20 November 2013, the launch of the Eurasian Sub-regional soil partnership took place on 20th November with the participation of representatives from national soil institutions, universities, NGOs and regional institutions from Kazakhstán, Kyrgyzstán, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The venue was an opportunity to discuss about the main issues and priorities for the region regarding soil resources. Notably, soil salinity was identified as the main hazard to healthy soils in the region and a common view towards its reversal was identified. The Moscow communiqué (in Russian) was prepared by the participants and agreed to establish the Euroasian Subregional Soil Partnership as a chapter of the European Soil Partnership. The Secretariat will be based in Moscow, Russian Federation at the Eurasian Center for Food Security.
