Launch of “Capacity Development on Sustainable Soil Management in the Global South” and “National Water Roadmap towards 2030 Sustainable Development Goals" in Zimbabwe | 14:00 CEST
FAO and the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe recently signed the implementation agreements for two projects: “Capacity Development on Sustainable Soil Management in the Global South” and “National Water Roadmap towards 2030 Sustainable Development Goals” in Zimbabwe.

The challenges posed by soil degradation and water scarcity are particularly acute in Zimbabwe, where red soils and water resources are vital for agriculture and livelihoods.With this background, FAO’s two global projects under the FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme aims to support sustainable red soil management as well as mainstreaming water into national policy efforts and share success experiences of China with Zimbabwe. This consolidated cooperation represents a significant stride towards improving soil laboratory capacity, agricultural practices, strengthened cross-sectorial collaboration, mainstreaming of water into national policies, capacity development and the strengthening of extension system in the country. The launch of the projects is intended to kick-start the project's activities in Zimbabwe.
Objectives
The launch event of the project will serve as a platform for:
- Introducing the SSC Soil project and National Water Roadmaps project and the initial action plans to all relevant institutions and stakeholders, in particular LAFWRD and CSRI.
- Celebrating and consolidating the support of project partners, national and international institutions for effective project implementation.
