The webinar will  officially launch the programme as a direct contribution to sustainable soil management at the farm level. This event will mark the start of the implementation of the Global Soil Doctors programme, as, following the launch, Soil Doctors kits will be distributed for field implementation in the different regions of the world.

BACKGROUND

The Global Soil Doctors programme is a farmer-to-farmer training initiative that aims to support farmers in enhancing their capacities and knowledge on sustainable soil management.  This programme works very well in contexts where Extension Services are absent, weak or simply where the aim is to empower farmers within a community by training a lead farmer (Soil Doctor) in the diffusion of methods and tools to detect soil degradation problems and to provide solutions on the ground. The Soil Doctors programme includes a set of tools composed of educational materials and a soil testing kit for assessing soil condition as well as a set of good practices under the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management.

More information on the Global Soil Doctors programme can be found on the Global Soil Partnership’s (GSP) website.
