The nomination process for the Glinka World Soil Prize is officially open and all GSP Partners are invited to nominate candidates – individuals or organization –, either directly or on behalf of a third party.
The FAO Global Soil Partnership has the pleasure to invite individuals, institutions, NGOs, academia, colleges and universities, private companies or any other entities that in December 2018 have organized remarkable and engaging World Soil Day activities or campaigns to demonstrate the importance of soils for all to submit applications for the King Bhumibol World Soil Day (WSD) Award, edition 2019.

During the 7th session of the GSP Plenary Assembly, the GSP Secretariat highlighted the success of the Regional Soil Partnerships and of several existing National Soil Partnerships. The latter bring together a range of national soil stakeholders and ensure a consolidated approach to actions of the GSP and other major initiatives related to the sustainable management of soil resources at the national level. As a result, on the 26th of August 2019, Gambia formally established its National Soil Partnership.
It is estimated that over half of agricultural land in Mexico is degraded, that is, it experiences a loss of fertility (or capacity) to produce food or conserve its vegetation. To combat soil erosion and degradation, the "Program for the Promotion of Sustainable Land Management" (ProTierras) was implemented since 2016, with FAO being the agency responsible for the supervision and provision of technical advice in coordination with the government of Mexico (SEMARNAT and SADER)*. The funding for this project was provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
