Se estima que más de la mitad de las tierras agrícolas en México sufren degradación, es decir, experimentan una pérdida de fertilidad (o la capacidad) para producir alimentos o conservar la vegetación. Para combatir la erosión y degradación del suelo se está implementando el “Programa de promoción de manejo sostenible de la tierra” (ProTierras), y la FAO es la agencia responsable de la supervisión y provisión de asesoramiento técnico en coordinación con el gobierno de México (SEMARNAT y SADER)* juntamente con el financiamiento del Fondo Mundial para el Medio Ambiente.

The Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) held its tenth working session from 13 to 17 May 2019, during the Global Symposium on Soil Erosion (GSER 19) at FAO Headquarters in Rome. The report of the meeting has just been released and is available online.
The Bonn Climate Change Conference (SB50) was held from 17 to 27 June 2019 in Bonn, Germany under the aegis of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). SB50 hosted a wide range of events, meetings, and negotiating sessions that set the stage for raising ambition to curb greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate resilience-building efforts, and ensure that climate policy is built on a solid foundation of the best available science and knowledge. SB50 is the preliminary step towards a successful COP25 in Chile in December 2019.
