From 23–30 May 2025, FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP) held a training workshop to strengthen technical capacity for assessing soil biodiversity and functional indicators in support of both national and global monitoring efforts. The event was organized within the framework of the Global Soil Biodiversity Observatory (GLOSOB) – a monitoring initiative developed by the International Network of Soil Biodiversity Network (NETSOB) – and the Soil Biodiversity Observation Network (SoilBON) . The workshop brought together 11 participants (8 men and 3 women) from Central and North America, the Caribbean, and Central Asia .

MAPUTO – The Government of Mozambique, with technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and financial support of Government of Japan, has launched the Soil Mapping for Resilient Agrifood Systems – Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (SoilFER-VACS) project aimed at enhancing soil fertility and sustainable crop management across Mozambique. With a financial contribution of USD 6 million from the Government of Japan, benefiting country-level activities in Mozambique and Tunisia, backed by regional and global level technical support, the project is set to fortify soil data systems, boost laboratory capacities, and improve fertilizer management to promote sustainable soil and land management.

The European Soil Laboratory Network (EUROSOLAN), part of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN), aims to strengthen regional collaboration and technical capacity among soil laboratories. GLOSOLAN, one of the technical networks of FAO and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP), aims to standardize soil analysis methods and improve the comparability of data worldwide.

JOIN THE GRAND OPENING!

The 13th Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) will take place from 3 to 5 June 2025 at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome. The event, which coincides with FAO’s 80th anniversary, is set to bring together global stakeholders to advance sustainable soil management and restoration efforts.
