NATIONAL GOODWILL AMBASSADOR
Diarmuid Gavin is an Irish garden designer and TV personality who has designed many gardens in Ireland and the UK, mainland Europe, Africa, and China. He has participated in the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show nine times - winning gold in 2011. As a broadcaster, Diarmuid presented gardening series for all the terrestrial broadcasters in the UK including Home Front, Art of the Garden, Diarmuid’s Big Adventure, and Gardening Together. He has authored 13 garden design books including the best sellers Outdoors and Planting (with the late Sir Terence Conran). His autobiographical volume, How the Boy Next Door Turned Out was published in 2010. Diarmuid has participated in tele-reality shows including Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Come Dine with Me.
Diarmuid was appointed National Goodwill Ambassador for Ireland in 2022 following his appointment as an Ambassador for the International Year of Plant Health in 2020. His focus for FAO is plant and soil health, sustainable management of forests, ecosystem pollination and combatting food loss and waste.
