Rachel Roddy is a food writer and cookbook author from London, who now resides in Rome.
Rachel trained as an actor and moved to Italy in 2005 – working as a waitress while learning Italian. She now lives in the Testaccio district of the capital, with her partner and son.
She began food writing on her blog, Rachel Eats in 2008 and was spotted by The Guardian newspaper for which she now writes a weekly column called Rachel Roddy: A Kitchen in Rome. She has contributed regularly to The Financial Times, Vanity Fair, National Geographic, Eater and Noble Rot.
Rachel is the author of three best-selling cookbooks: the André Simeon Memorial Fund Award-winning Five Quarters (published 2015), Two Kitchens (2017) about the food of Testaccio and her partner Vincenzo’s hometown of Gela in Sicily, and her most recent, An A-Z of Pasta (2021). In all her work, Rachel Roddy emphasizes the importance of seasonal ingredients and demonstrates how her recipes can be adapted easily and quickly.
For FAO, Rachel hosted a Junior World Food Day event in 2023 with FAO Goodwill Ambassadors Diarmuid Gavin and Rodrigo Pacheco. She has regularly relayed FAO messaging through her very popular social media platforms.
