Colombia has positioned forests as a central pillar of its climate strategy. This commitment is reflected in key policy instruments such as the National Strategy for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (ENREDD+), the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Climate Action Law, and the national reports submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Achieving these ambitious targets requires not only robust policy frameworks but also the capacity to translate national commitments into coordinated action on the ground. 

With a strong commitment and shared vision, participants of the regional dialogue on forest-positive agriculture created an action-focused roadmap to accelerate country-owned solutions to address agriculture-linked deforestation in Africa.

As the UN-REDD Programme enters its 2026–2030 strategic phase, strengthening transparency, integrity, and ambition in forest-based climate action has become more important than ever.

With agriculture central to the continent’s economies and projected population growth, strengthening agriculture–forestry linkages is increasingly recognized as a key transformation needed to enhance productivity, resilience, livelihood, and food security while reducing deforestation.

In 2026, the International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) highlights the contribution of women to agriculture, food production and land stewardship. 

Pekanbaru, Riau, 5 March 2026 — Forest monitoring holds the key in efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) in countries like Indonesia, home to the world’s third largest tropical forest. At the heart of it is a Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) mechanism to accurately calculate the amount of forest carbon emission and its changes over time.
