Food for the cities programme

Where we work

The programme engages with actors of city regions around the world to develop action plans and priority areas of interventions to build resilient and sustainable city region food systems.

The programme started in 2014. 

From 2015 to 2018 the first phase of the CRFS programme took place with the implementation of the CRFS approach in the following cities: 

  • Colombo (Sri Lanka)
  • Kitwe (Zambia)
  • Lusaka (Zambia)
  • Medellín (Colombia)
  • Quito (Ecuador)
  • Toronto (Canada)
  • Utrecht (the Netherlands)

The second phase of the program, which has a stronger focus on resilience to climate and pandemic shocks, started in 2019 and is currently taking place in the following cities: 

  • Antananarivo (Madagascar)
  • Colombo (Sri Lanka)
  • Kigali (Rwanda)
  • Tamale (Ghana)
  • Melbourne (Australia) is also participating in the programme as an independent partner.
