In parts of Argentina, agricultural expansion has shifted livestock production into more fragile areas, including native forests in the Parque Chaqueño. In some zones, silvopastoral practices have contributed to deforestation and landscape fragmentation, with negative impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
This project supports a transition to forest-compatible livestock production by scaling MBGI and improving beef production and marketing, enabling producers to meet increasingly demanding market requirements while protecting native forests. It addresses key barriers, including limited agro-climatic information for planning, constraints in accessing finance, and the need for stronger integration of forests into livestock production systems.

The project promotes the MBGI approach as a practical pathway to improve productivity while maintaining forest cover and ecosystem functions. It also strengthens the enabling conditions for sustainable production at scale by linking producers to differentiated markets and supporting the integration of health and socio-environmental traceability across the beef value chain.
Work includes improving governance and coordination for MBGI implementation, strengthening information systems and monitoring, building capacities across institutions and value chain actors, and advancing knowledge and innovation to support replication beyond the project areas.
