A desk review, interviews and questionnaires all contributed to the production of this report. The ten sites selected and highlighted in this report were chosen based on prior knowledge of the programme. Furthermore, six of these ten ecoregions are biodiversity hotspots as per the commonly agreed definition (rating levels of endemism and extent of threat). These sites by no means cover all of WWF’s efforts on the restoration of forests in landscapes.

In June 2006, some of the key figures involved in implementing forest landscape restoration came together for a study tour in Spain and Portugal, to exchange experiences, discuss what is and is not working, compile some of the lessons and identify future challenges. The study group included participation from ecoregion programmes including the Atlantic Forests (Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay); Borneo Lowland and Montane Forests (Indonesia); East African Coastal Forests (Kenya and Tanzania); Greater Annamites (Vietnam); Madagascar Moist Forests; Mediterranean Forests (Morocco and Portugal); New Caledonia Dry Forests; and the Yangtze Basin (China); and a representative from Forestry Commission Scotland. The publication starts by summarising the key lessons identified by the group, then discusses each in more detail, and ends with some key conclusions. Recommendations are made on the way forward for implementation of forest restoration at a landscape scale, designed to guide forest practitioners, conservationists and policymakers alike.

Integrated landscape management and large-scale landscape restoration should be in every company’s business strategy because in order to reach the Sustainable Development Goal on Land Degradation Neutrality (SDG Number 15.3) scaling up and acceleration of business-driven landscape restoration is urgently needed. This requires business professionals with a vision, the right knowledge and skills. This MOOC aims to train the next generation of business professionals and developers to acknowledge business’ interdependency with healthy landscapes and understand the value of ecosystem resources. This MOOC is developed by the ENABLE partnership, which is co-funded by the ERASMUS+ programme of the European Commission and involves a diverse, international group of organizations including Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, Commonland, United Nations University Land Restoration Training Programme, the Spanish National Research Council and Estoril Global Conferences.

Proceedings of the workshop "FLR in Central and Northern Europe". The purpose of the workshop was to demonstrate how the international forest policy dialogue can be translated into practical actions on the ground. The objectives were to: ● Show how forest landscape restoration might contribute towards meeting broader national economic, social, cultural, environmental and development goals, and to encourage further forest landscape restoration action on the ground in the Central and Northern European region. ● Improve links between the international forest policy processes and practical forest management activities on the ground by demonstrating how ongoing forest landscape restoration activities can play a significant role in meeting national commitments in relation to a range of international agreements and decisions. ● Encourage both the political support and technical expertise to implement the commitments of international and regional forest related commitments related to forest landscape restoration and demonstrate potential synergies between them within the context of field experience from forest landscape restoration in the Central and Northern European region. ● Facilitate partnerships between stakeholders dealing with environmental and/or socioeconomic aspects of forest landscape restoration in the Central and Northern European region and address the evolving role of forests in the region. ● Demonstrate how the research community could contribute in promoting the forest landscape restoration.

Restoring Tropical Forests is a hands-on guide to restoring tropical forest ecosystems to degraded areas.
