The workshop was held in Ponza (Italy) on 18-19 September 2014. The purpose was to report on progress that has been made in terms of the development and refinement of the index and projection model, while also providing a forum for the discussion of possible improvements and the future direction of the project.

The FAO Fish Price Index (FPI) is regularly published in GLOBEFISH publications and in the FAO Food Outlook, although the index has not yet been included in the official FAO Food Price Index. Starting from 2011 for the first time, fish and fishery product are included in the annual OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2013-2022 publication.

The annual index workshop represents an important opportunity for collaboration between the participant experts in formulating proposals for further adjustments of the FPI and also in improving the fish projection model built by FAO FIPM/FIPS.
