Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries

Year published: 2011

Fisheries, including aquaculture, provide a vital source of food, employment, recreation, trade and economic well-being for people throughout the world, both for present and future generations and should therefore be conducted in a responsible manner.

To promote long-term sustainable fisheries, in 1995 the FAO Conference adopted the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.

Afterwards, in 2011, FAO published the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries - Special Edition. This special edition of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries commemorates 15 years since the Code was unanimously adopted on 31 October 1995. It includes the text of the Code in its entirety, background to the origin and elaboration of the Code and Resolution 4/95 as adopted by the Twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). It also contains a CD-ROM containing the Code, its supporting documents and instruments, technical guidelines and related information.
