The FAO Smart Fisheries Co-Management (SFC) project is making significant steps in Cambodia. With the focus on bolstering the capabilities of government bodies and local fishing communities, the SFC project is tailored to establish effective fisheries co-management systems and promote sustainable livelihoods.

Cambodia's involvement in the SFC project started in June 2023, marked by an inception workshop attended by FAO officials, representatives from the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and key stakeholders within the fisheries sector.

The inception workshop enabled adialogue among stakeholders, ensuring a shared comprehension of the project outcomes, output expectations, and planned activities, setting a strong foundation for the project's future interventions. This event laid the ground for the project's next activities.

Moving forward, FAO is now organizing a validation workshop in Cambodia. This workshop aims to bring together key stakeholders, experts, and project partners with the objectiveto collectively reviewing and validatingthe proposed feasibility study, site selection, and action plan. The aim is to ensure these components harmonize with the overarching objectives of the project.

  • Site Selection Assessment: Evaluate the proposed site selectionin light of environmental, geographical, and socio-economic factors to ensure optimal suitability and minimal negative impact.
  • Strategic Action Planning: Collaboratively refine the action plan, ensuring clear timelines and alignment with the project's overarching goals and objectives.
