SVC4SIDS Micro Canning Training boosts products diversification in Kiribati
In collaboration with the Kiribati Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development (MFRD) and funding from the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), FAO’s SVC4SIDS project held a Micro Canning Training of Trainers from 5 to 8 December 2023 in Tawara, Kiribati. This workshop meant to equip participants with advanced insights and an essential understanding of hygiene and food safety within micro-canning of tuna and lobster.
This comprehensive training represents a pivotal step in fostering product development and value addition in SVC4SIDS project islands. By equipping trainers with practical operations and practices, this initiative is poised to have a lasting impact on the industry, promoting higher food safety standards and enhancing consumer confidence in canned products. As well as paving the way for employment and income generation.
The training was organized within the framework of the 10-year domestic tuna and lobster value chain upgrading strategies facilitated by the SVC4SIDS project. It also adds to previous trainings on micro-processing and hygiene and food safety.
