FAO good practices of climate action in food crisis and fragile contexts

17/10/2025

In FAO’s emergency and resilience work, climate action is understood as any activity focused on managing climate risks, hazards, shocks, or stresses, as well as addressing the impacts of climate-related events (including loss and damage). It recognizes all efforts taken before, during, or after a climate-related event. In today’s context, the interlinkages between climate change, conflict, and food security are undeniable, making the transformation of agrifood systems central to breaking the vicious cycle connecting these challenges.

The FAO Office of Emergencies and Resilience has embarked on an initiative to identify and collect good practices, experiences, and lessons learned on the implementation of climate action solutions by FAO in (or adapted to) food crisis and fragile contexts, with the aim to share knowledge on impactful, actionable and scalable solutions. This brochure presents a selection of winning cases worldwide across a portfolio of complementary climate risk and impact management solutions suited to fragile and food crisis contexts, strengthening resilience capacities of agrifood systems and the people whose livelihoods are dependent on the climate.
