Multisectoral collaboration is essential for national adaptation – Lekha Nath Acharya, Nepal

Year published: 2016

Mr. Lekha Nath Acharya, who works as a Joint Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nepal, shares in this video his views about the importance of integrating the agriculture sectors in the country’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

Nepal is a mountainous and land-locked country, where agriculture sectors are very important as employers and sources of the gross domestic product. Nepal is also highly vulnerable to climate change impacts. Especially women and children are vulnerable groups.

Mr. Acharya underlines the need to build capacity to increase resilience. Additionally, attention should be paid to develop further coordination between differences agencies and institutions to work more efficiently together to be able to face climate change through a multisectoral effort.

“It is important to get into climate action!”

The FAO-UNDP “Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag)” Programme is working with Nepal, and other countries, to safeguard livelihoods and promote resilience.
