FAO in Iraq
Iraq has been a proud member of FAO since 1945, with collaboration deepening following the establishment of an FAO representation office in 1979. Over the decades, FAO has worked closely with the country to enhance agricultural production, promote rural development, and provide vital normative support.
In response to the crises brought on by war and the rise of ISIS, FAO has prioritized strengthening the resilience of farmers and restoring agricultural livelihoods. Our interventions focus on supporting conflict-affected households across Iraq, ensuring they have the tools and resources to rebuild, adapt, and thrive in the face of challenges.
Through climate-smart agriculture, sustainable resource management, and targeted livelihood programs, FAO remains committed to fostering food security, resilience, and long-term development in Iraq.
