Under the new Country Programming Framework for Myanmar, a total of three priority areas have been considered for FAO assistance in Myanmar for a period of six years - 2017-2022. The priority areas are:
- Enhanced food security, nutrition and food safety;
- Strengthened governance and sustainable management of land, forest, water resources and ecosystems; and
- Enhanced resilience of local communities and farming households to natural and humanitarian disasters, climate change and transboundary and emerging infectious disease risks.

In addition, FAO will contribute support in the following cross cutting issues:
- Capacity development
- Gender equity and equality
- Ethnic group rights
