Briefing to Member States on the humanitarian situation in Haiti

The briefing to Member States on the Humanitarian Situation in Haiti will be chaired by Mr. Ramesh Rajasingham, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, a.i., who visited Haiti following the devastating earthquake on 14 August. Speakers will include H.E. Mr. Simon Dieuseul Desras, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation for Haiti, and Mr. Bruno Lemarquis, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti.

The Flash Appeal seeks US $187.3 million in emergency relief assistance to support 500 000 of the most vulnerable people, out of the 650 000 people identified to be in need of humanitarian assistance.

The briefing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (EST), and will be webcast live on UN WebTV.
