Summer Fellows to Explore Food Security – Agriculture – Nutrition Nexus

2 June 2021, Washington, DC – FAO North America and Planet Forward announce four students that have been selected for a Summer Storytelling Fellowship to produce stories in any medium at the nexus of food security, agriculture, and nutrition.

Lisa Palmer, National Geographic Professor of Science Communication at the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University and Planet Forward Education Lead, will mentor and guide the students.

The program will begin on June 7 and will culminate with events surrounding World Food Day. The students will receive a USD $1,500 stipend.

The 2021 Storytelling Summer Fellows are:

Sejal Govindarao is a rising sophomore studying Political Communication at George Washington University. Sejal is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be reporting on minority communities there.

Terrius Harris from the University of Oklahoma, who is currently pursuing his Masters of Legal Studies for Indigenous Peoples Law. Terrius will be reporting from Oahu, Hawaii, on the Indigenous population’s access to food.

Jules Struck from Emerson College, who is pursuing a Masters degree in Journalism, will be reporting from the Boston, Massachusetts, area.

Benjamin Thomas, a junior studying Environmental Studies at Franklin & Marshall College, will be reporting from a sustainable farm in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

The collaboration builds on FAO North America’s partnership with Planet Forward, a project of the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, teaches, celebrates, and rewards environmental storytelling by college students.
