As the world grapples with increasingly complex challenges, South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) is gaining in recognition as a valid mechanism for equitable global development. This is a perspective shared by the Rwanda Cooperation Initiative (RCI) and three Rome-Based Agencies (RBAs) of the United Nations - the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Programme (WFP).

In August 2023, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Asia (AsiaDHRRA) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an additional five years. Together, the parties have recommitted to support rural organizations and family farmers’ organizations on the road to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Recent global challenges caused by disruptions in the food supply chain have exposed the fragility of global food security and agrifood systems. Resourcing innovative ideas, in collaboration with global multistakeholders, is becoming increasingly important to ensure sustainable agrifood systems and food safety for all.
