FAO and the United Arab Emirates sign two groundbreaking partnership agreements totaling over USD 3.8 million

On May 20, 2020, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) significantly increased cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries by virtually signing two groundbreaking partnership agreements with the Ministry of State on Food Security of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on projects to transform the agriculture sector to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhance the food security system in the UAE.

The projects, “Transforming the Food and Agriculture Sector to Achieve the SDGs for Enhanced Food Security and Nutrition,” (with a budget of USD 3 597 111) and “Assessment and Strategic Analysis of the Food Control System in Abu Dhabi,” (with a budget of USD 217 771), aim to provide an enabling environment to advance the SDGs in the UAE by promoting innovation, sustainability and capacity development, as well as assessing the Abu Dhabi food control system as per the standard format of FAO/WHO.
