This newsletter compiles the human-interest stories and news releases published in the second quarter of 2021 by the FAO Representation in Afghanistan. They include both development and humanitarian work and depict the impact and relevance of FAO's work in the lives of those farmers, livestock owners, herders and other vulnerable rural people that are assisted by FAO in Afghanistan.

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat Annual Report outlines key achievements in promoting sustainable mountain development last year in its 2020 annual report. The publication documents the Secretariat’s work in the areas of advocacy, communication, and knowledge management, promoting International Mountain Day, brokering joint action, and leading capacity development initiatives. This publication intends to provide an overview of the Mountain Partnership’s efforts in the world also during the COVID 19 crisis. Although it is not a comprehensive report of all members’ activities, it is a chance to celebrate and appreciate the many national, regional, and international collaborations, institutional strengthening, capacity development initiatives, thematic conferences, and scientific reports that have taken place within the framework of the Mountain Agenda.

Au Burkina Faso, l’exacerbation des conflits liés aux ressources naturelles et la dégradation rapide de l’insécurité constituent une source de préoccupation majeure, à la fois pour les pouvoirs publics et pour les populations. De manière générale, l’objectif de la présente note de synthèse consiste à: (i) dresser l’inventaire des conflits liés aux ressources naturelles et des autres conflits dans l’espace rural; (ii) identifier des initiatives en matière de prévention et de gestion des conflits; et (iii) formuler des propositions pour améliorer l’efficacité des mécanismes de prévention et de gestion des conflits. This policy brief highlights the economic contribution of pastoralism at the national level, not only through the production and sale of animal-based products, but also through household self-consumption.
