Objective: "The University of Torino is today one of the largest Italian Universities, open to international research and training. The mission of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry, and Food Sciences (DISAFA – University of Torino) is to perform basic and applied research, and to offer educational programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral level, in the fields of plant- and animal-based primary production and transformation processes, and on the interactions of these activities with the territory and environment. DiSAFA is devoted to perform world-class fundamental research to deliver knowledge and innovation, and provide evidence-based sustainable solutions to current and future challenges. One of its roles (Animal Production Unit) is providing scientific methods and validated instruments to characterize the pastoral farming systems through intrinsic quality attributes and extrinsic (e.g. ecosystem services related to farming systems, such as conservation of biodiversity, maintenance of cultural and aesthetic value of the landscape, etc.). Other tasks are training seminars for teachers and students of partners through thematic seminars on the topic of services offered by pastoral systems (e.g. investigations on the qualitative characteristics of pastoral food products); dissemination activities and third mission.
