High-Level Event marking the 10th Anniversary since the entry into force of the PSMA

On 7 September 2026, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) along with high-level representatives, will celebrate the ten years since the entry into force of the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (PSMA)

The PSMA - a landmark achievement of the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI) - entered into force on 5 June 2016.

This high-level event provides an opportunity to reflect on the PSMA’s key achievements, while reaffirming collective commitment to strengthen implementation and effectiveness in support of sustainable fisheries and the long-term conservation and sustainable use of living marine resources and marine ecosystems.

The high-level event is being held at the Plenary Hall within FAO Headquarters, in Rome, Italy, and will be webcast. Delegates attending COFI and other FAO personnel are welcome to attend. Follow this page for the latest information.

PSMA 10th anniversary featuring in the 104th Annual Meeting of IATTC - Portugal - 31 August-5 September 2026

During the 104th Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC), held from 31 August to 5 September 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal, the 10th anniversary of the PSMA featured during a side event.

Spain celebrates the 10th anniversary of the PSMA - 6 July 2026

Spanish authorities celebrated the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the PSMA during a special event held in occasion of the opening session of a PSMA training course, held in Vigo

Ms Isabel Artime, Secretary General of Fisheries of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, recognized the role of the PSMA in the fight against IUU fishing and the achievements of the first decade of its implementation.

PSMA10 celebrated by South American Regional Action Group on Fisheries – Argentina – 13-17 April 2026

The 10th anniversary of the PSMA was celebrated by the South American Regional Action Group (GAR, Grupo de Acción Regional) on Fisheries, during an event held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 13 – 17 April 2026.

The GAR is a cooperative initiative among Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil focused on improving the sustainable management of fisheries resources and strengthening the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

PSMA10 celebrated at SPRFMO 14th Annual Commission – Panama – 3 March 2026

The Autoridad de los Recursos Acuáticos de Panamá (ARAP) organised a side event to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the entry into force of the PSMA, during the 14th Annual Commission meeting of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO), which was held in Panama City, in Panama, from 2 to 6 March 2026.
