Guidance Document on Developing Port Waste Management Plans

2023

The GloLitter Partnerships project (GloLitter), funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and implemented by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aims to assist developing countries to prevent, reduce and control marine plastic litter (MPL) from the maritime transport and fisheries sectors. This Guidance Document describes the key and optional elements that are to be included in a Port Waste Management Plan (PWMP), and how they are to be developed taking into account the port’s characteristics. This Guidance Document also includes models that can be used as a basis for a PWMP in merchant and cruise/passenger ports, fishing ports and recreational ports.
