Co-operatives: Empowering People for Sustainable Development and Zero Hunger is a conference of the International Co-operative Alliance co-organized with Confcooperative, Ja Zenchu, CCW (Consumer Co-operatives Worldwide), ICAO (International Co-operative Agricultural Organization) and FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations).

Robert van Otterdijk, Agro-Industry Officer, Rural Infrastructure and Industries Division and team leader of FAO’s SAVE FOOD Initiative, will be part of the Round-Table “Sustainable production and consumption: Avoiding food losses and food waste in the supply chain”

The three-day conference will provide the opportunity for co-operative representatives to network and exchange views on key issues, such as supporting rural communities, environmental sustainability, food waste, supply chain security and trade agreements.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore Expo 2015, the first world exposition in Europe since 2000. The site will showcase innovations from more than 140 countries on "Feeding the planet, energy for life" and feature a Future Supermarket designed by Coop Italy.
