In the context of Expo Milano 2015, the European Commission is pleased to invite you to an international conference on "Fight Food Waste, Feed the Planet". The conference will take place on 15 October 2015 at the Expo Conference Centre, in Milan, Italy. "Fight Food Waste, Feed the Planet" aims to contribute to the setting of European Union (EU) and global directions for food waste prevention, focusing on the importance of effective intersect or cooperation from farm to fork. A two-day, multi-stakeholder regional consultation was convened by FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific on 6–7 July 2015 in Bangkok to review progress and share knowledge, experiences and lessons learned on reducing food loss and waste in the region. In rural areas, pro-poor public investments could target small-scale irrigation and other infrastructure that benefits smallholders. Investments could include food processing to reduce post-harvest waste and losses, and stronger institutional arrangements for land and water tenure, credit facilities, labour legislation and other areas, to make farm and off-farm activities and markets accessible to marginalized groups, including women and young people. United Nations
The 193 Member States of the United Nations reached agreement on the draft outcome document that will constitute the new sustainable development agenda. The agenda features 17 new sustainable development goals. “Half per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer level, and reduce food losses along production and supply chains” is part of Goal 12: “Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns”. Feedback, a global environmental organization based in the United Kingdom, has launched a new campaign against food waste, directed to Europe’s major retailers: STOP DUMPING.


Food Cloud

Using Food Cloud’s innovative technology, Tesco has donated one million meals to charities across Ireland over the past 12 months. This is a fantastic achievement and Food Cloud is proud of the communities across Ireland that have come together to make it happen.


Food for All Ghana Campaign

The Food for All Ghana Campaign presents the 1st West African Food for All Conference on 13–16 October in Accra. The conference will feature awards, an exhibition and an attempt to set a Guinness World record. Discussions will cover the latest knowledge, developments and solutions for food waste and explore innovative ways of reducing waste and reusing or recycling food for social benefit.


FoodWe

The Belgian Foodwe platform won the European Waste Reduction Week prize in May 2015. The theme of this year was “reducing food wastage”, and close to 12 000 projects from Europe were presented. The project is supported by Belgian farmers’ federations, producers and propose them the opportunity to donate or sell their unsold but safe-to-eat product to charities.


OzHarvest

OzHarvest has fed ten thousand people across Australia using the United Nations’ Think.Eat.Save events to fight food waste.


Stop Spild Af Mad

Over the last five years, food waste in Denmark has declined by DKr 4.4 billion (US$640 million), equivalent to 25 percent.


Wageningen UR

The Food Battle 2.0 campaign is a successful group approach to preventing food waste. Wageningen University’s Food and Biobased Research Department in the Netherlands runs Food Battle, which will be made accessible to a wider audience towards the end of the year.
