Join us to explore the world of foods

Food connects us all. It shapes our daily lives, cultures, and health. Yet we rarely pause to consider the journey it takes to reach us.

These fascinating journeys are the stories of From Seeds to Foods. The exhibition, with free entry to the public, served as a platform for hundreds of exhibitors from around the world to take visitors on an informative and entertaining journey of discovery along the value chains of crops, horticulture, livestock, forestry and fisheries.

Join us to learn about the rich traditions and groundbreaking technologies that shape how we grow, share and enjoy food – and taste some delicious foods from around the world yourself.

Celebrating 80 years of FAO

For eight decades, FAO has led international efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition. The exhibition will take place as part of the fifth edition of the World Food Forum and will constitute a milestone moment in the 80th anniversary of the founding of FAO.

The worlds of food and agriculture have changed considerably since 1945. As well as showcasing the progress made, the exhibition will look to the future of foods with a keen eye on how technological innovations will continue to transform global agrifood systems.

Understanding the journeys of a diverse world of foods

Food is a journey
Food is a journey, not a given

From seeds to foods on our table, what we eat has often travelled a long and complex path. It is the result of everybody involved in the value chain – especially researchers, extensionists, farmers, fishers, pastoralists, processors, traders, distributors, retailers and consumers.

Every plate tells a story
Every plate tells a story

Food is culture, identity, biodiversity and connection, and behind every ingredient there are people, places and choices made by multiple actors.

Everyone has a part to play
Everyone has a part to play

Whether you are a farmer, policymaker, chef, scientist, innovator, inventor or consumer – a better agrifood system depends on informed, collective and inclusive action.

Sustainable agrifood systems make food security and nutrition possible

Everything - from natural resources to how nutritious food is grown, harvested, processed, packaged, transported, distributed, traded, bought, prepared and eaten - matters.

Agrifood systems have come a long way
Agrifood systems have come a long way

Thanks to traditional knowledge, research and development, technologies, science and innovation, agrifood systems – crops, horticulture, livestock, fishery and forestry – have changed considerably over the decades, continuously striving to meet the challenge of producing enough food for the world’s growing population which, has tripled from approximately 2.5 billion in 1945, when FAO was founded, to more than eight billion today.

FAO 80
FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition

With 195 Members (194 countries and the European Union), FAO works in more than 130 countries. As FAO marks the 80th anniversary of its founding, its mandate to achieve global food security and nutrition for all is more relevant than ever. We need to ensure that everyone has regular access to enough nutritious and safe food to lead an active and healthy life.
