Regional policy dialogue on social protection for rural populations in Africa

23/04/2024

Poverty and food insecurity persist in rural Africa. Evidence shows that adequate social protection promotes inclusive and sustainable growth and increases productivity and employability.

FAO and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) will convene a regional policy dialogue on strengthening social protection systems to increase coverage of rural populations in Africa.

The policy dialogue will take stock of the state of social protection in rural areas in Africa, share knowledge on  emerging issues and trends, review the gaps in social protection systems, and propose strategic actions to support African countries towards the Sustainable Development Goals and the Africa 2063 Agenda. The policy dialogue is also expected to provide FAO with key inputs for developing a regional social protection framework for Africa.

Venue: The event will take place in Kampala (Uganda) and online.
