Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS), 21st session

11/09/2006 - 15/09/2006

The Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS) is a statutory body of FAO. APCAS brings together senior statistics officials from FAO member countries of the Asia and Pacific region, who are responsible for the development of agricultural statistics in their respective countries. They review the developments in their agricultural statistics systems since the last session and exchange ideas with experts from FAO and other organizations on the state of food and agricultural statistics in the region. FAO uses this occasion to inform the member countries about its activities during the preceding biennium, particularly in Asia and the Pacific region.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) organized the 21st session of the Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS 21), in Phuket (Thailand), 11-15 September 2006.

The 21st Session of the Commission focused on:

    - Statistics on rural households’ living and well-being
    - Meta data as a tool to Improve Quality and Usefulness of Statistics
    - Use of Community-level Data from Agricultural Census.

A review of the status and developments in Food and Agricultural Statistics in the Region was carried out with a questionnaire on metadata. The delegates were required to collaborate with concerned departments in their respective countries to obtain comprehensive information in the questionnaire. These questionnaires were processed and presented by FAO at the Session.
