To contribute to the discussion on how data and statistics can support climate objectives, the Statistics Technical Network is organizing a webinar on FAO’s work on FAOSTAT Emissions statistics.
On this occasion, Francesco N. Tubiello (Senior Statistician and Team Leader—Environment, Statistics Division) will present recent initiatives and resources produced by FAO related to addressing climate change and its impacts on agri-food systems.
FAO recently unveiled a new database on Emissions Shares at COP26. The new database hosted in FAOSTAT will track carbon emissions from agri-food systems around the world. It covers, in addition to emissions on agricultural land, pre- and post-production processes in agri-food systems, such as those linked to the production of inputs; energy generation and consumption in food supply chains; and waste disposal. This new global public good is instrumental for enabling targeted implementation of some of the pledges countries make to pursue carbon neutrality.
